Suspension (4)

Category: Suspension

Shocks and struts dampen the movement of your vehicle’s springs. Symptoms of worn shocks and struts include:

  • Control loss, meaning the units have become weak and will no longer dampen the tire and suspension vibration
  • Unusual tire wear including cupping on the inner shoulders
  • Unit is coated in and/or leaking oil or fluid
  • Front end diving when braking
  • Vehicle is unusually “floating” and ill-handling
  • Bottoming out (thumping) when driving over bumps

Adjustable dampers have internal valves that can be adjusted to increase or decrease the rebound or compression rate. These also have additional advantages for those customers involved in motorsports. They allow fine-tuning of the suspension for track use and the ability to soften it back up for daily driver use.

A shock and a strut do the same basic job on a vehicle, damping the movement of the spring and stopping oscillation and bounce. The major difference between shocks and struts is that a strut is a structural part of the vehicles suspension system where a shock is not. A strut is also crucial part of the vehicles steering system and greatly affects alignment angles.

It’s a good idea to have your alignment checked annually. You certainly should have it done anytime suspension components or the tires/wheels are replaced, upgraded, or otherwise altered.

Tires (5)

Yes. But keep in mind that many times when a vehicle is equipped with run-flat tires from the factory, a spare tire is not included

Directional tires will have a rotation arrow branded on the tire’s sidewall. The arrow indicates the direction in which the tire should turn. Unless they are dismounted and remounted on their wheels to accommodate use on the other side of the vehicle, directional tires are to be used on one side of the vehicle and are intended to be rotated from the front axle to the rear axle. If different tire sizes are used on the front vs. rear axle, the tires become location-specific and prohibit tire rotation unless remounted.

If you want the same tire size and are unsure what size is installed on your vehicle, please confirm the size as listed on the tire sidewall before placing your order. The tire sizing we list are based on the years of experience we have with plus size wheel and tire combinations. However, it is important to note that these optional tire sizes are based on vehicle specific wheel sizes/offsets.

Speed ratings were established to match the speed capability of tires with the top speed capability of the vehicles to which they are applied. For example, an V-speed rated tire is designed for maximum speeds of 149 mph. To maintain the speed capabililty of a vehicle, use replacement tires with ratings equal or greater than those of the original tires.
